Tex-Mex food is one of the most popular cuisines in the Hill Country. It’s great fun to load up a group and head for your favorite Tex-Mex restaurant where the gang can indulge in too many tamales, enchiladas, and margaritas! But one of the best parts of a Tex-Mex meal is having Sopapillas for dessert. The classic little puffed pastries are sinfully good, especially when drizzled with honey. You can enjoy those sopapillas at home when you make up a batch using our Fredericksburg Farms Traditional Sopapilla Mix. Then dip them in this cinnamon-kissed caramel. Tell us if they’re not the best you’ve ever had!

Prepare the sopapillas according to directions on the package of Fredericksburg Farms Traditional Sopapilla Mix. While the sopapillas are cooking make the caramel sauce by combining brown sugar, water and cinnamon in a heavy, 4-quart saucepan over medium heat. Cooks, without stirring, until sugar has dissolved. Then cook, stirring, until syrup is slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside to keep warm.
As soon as the sopapillas are fried, using tongs, dip them in the warm caramel sauce. Place the dipped sopaillas on a wire rack set over a baking sheet. Allow them to cool until they are slightly crisp. Serve and enjoy. If you want the sopapillas to be seriously decadent, drizzle chocolate syrup over them after they are crisp.
