Starting about the middle of May each year the peaches begin to ripen in Fredericksburg. Thousands of folks from all over the place visit our town during the peach season to buy peaches from dozens of individual farms. Most of the farms offer “pick your own” peaches. Make it a family outing and pack a picnic lunch. Start out early in the morning before the heat starts to bake the land. Pick your fill, then enjoy that picnic. If you’re not of a mind to pick your own, then you can choose from dozens of roadside stands and rustic markets operated by the local farms. You’ll find peaches by the bushel or you can buy just a few. But once you get the aroma of those fresh peaches, a few just won’t be enough!
