April Fool’s Day

There are many stories of the origin of this fun prank and joke filled day throughout time. An especially funny one has to do with changing to the Julian calendar from the previous Gregorian calendar in the 1500s. With the Julian calendar the year began on January 1, the old Gregorian calendar year began April 1. After the change by Julius Caesar some continued to use the April date as the beginning of the year and the snooty Romans referred to them as “April fools.” No matter the origin, it is lots of fun to spend the day pulling pranks. Salt in the sugar bowl, plastic wrap on the toilet seat, and a rubber band around the hose sprayer at the kitchen sink. Those things were favorites of my children, so much so that I still check the hose spray at the kitchen sink, I have been drenched on several occasions as I turned on my kitchen faucet and got a spray of water right in the chest as they shouted , “April Fools!” Happy pranking!
