Gillespie County Fair

It is county fair time in Fredericksburg. The Gillespie County Fair is the oldest, continuous county fair in Texas and is replete with a midway, fair foods like funnel cakes and hot dogs, a Queen’s contest, judging of baked goods, canned and preserved vegetables and fruits, crafts, quilts and livestock, plus two days of live pari- mutuel horse racing, nightly dances, and a huge parade on Main Street. It is small town celebration at its finest and not something you would want to miss. Our family enters things each year in several of the judged contests and most of us have won a ribbon or two. So far none of us have beat Poppy’s 5 blue ribbons and Grand Champion Pen of chickens or Bo’s Champion Best of Show Home Product for his jar of Pickled Peaches, but we are ever hopeful!
