It’s “Fruitcake Time” again

The poor fruitcake is the butt of more jokes and disparaging comments than I can count. I am a person who not only likes and eats fruitcake but bakes them as well. I have an old family recipe that my grandmother gave me that she had received from a friend in 1955. She scribbled it down on an old postcard while she talked with the friend on the telephone. It only lists the ingredients and the baking temperature. No instructions were given as to the order to combine said ingredients in the bowl, or how long to bake it. But no worries, because I have watched her make it so many times that the directions are burned into my memory. I always make fruitcake in early November so it can be “seasoned” with regular doses of bourbon weekly to enhance its tastiness. I always make more than one, and who knows…we might have to get into it early, like at Thanksgiving. Mmmmm!
