Labor Day means the end of summer!

When I was growing up Labor Day signaled both the end of summer and the start of a new school year. School starts much earlier these days, but Labor Day still marks the official end of summer. What is called for is a cookout. I am blessed with a son-in-law who is an absolute master of the barbecue grill and the smoker. He regularly treats us with delicious, perfectly grilled meats, fish, poultry and wild game as well. Many years ago my family’s idea of a cookout used to mean a few hot dogs or a chicken with blackened sauce not done intentionally but rather as a result of the charcoal briquets being way too hot.
