Lessons Learned

Today is my Dad’s birthday and if he were still with us he would have 100 candles on his cake! He passed away 10 years ago after he had turned 90. We celebrated his 90th with a big celebration that brought out family, lifelong friends, and in some cases the children of friends. So many had stories of how our daddy had taught them a skill that they still used, or how he had told them something that had made a lasting impact on their lives. I feel fortunate to have learned some of these “life lessons” from my dad but also from many people I have encountered on my life’s journey. Some of the most valuable have been: “it’s okay if you are a little scared when you try something new,” or “keep trying until you have exhausted all the things you know to do,” and then my favorite, “when you can’t proceed any farther, find someone who knows more than you.” Today I still use these lessons. And I find out all sorts of things I don’t know how to do by finding lots of folks who know more than I. I just look on YouTube.
