Oktoberfest

The beginning of October marks the time of year when our small town of Fredericksburg celebrates its German heritage with a weekend festival of Oktoberfest in our downtown Marktplatz. Other towns nearby celebrate with festivals of their own including Wurstfest in nearby New Braunfels. They offer games for kids and adults, as well as shopping from many vendors. All sorts of German foods, sausage, schnitzel, soft pretzels, and strudel, along with a generous selection of German beers are available from various vendors as well. There is music all day long and folks don their lederhosen and dirndls to hit the dance floor with the polka, schottische, and of course the Chicken dance. I love the oompah bands and I love to polka with my grandchildren in honor of my German ancestors who came to Texas in 1845 and founded our town.  Find a festival this fall and go enjoy great food and fun for all ages.
