St. Paddy’s Day
Share

March 17 marks the day that St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is celebrated. Patrick was known for supposedly driving the snakes off of the island of Ireland. As the temps are warming up here in central Texas, the local snakes will be making their presence known. It also is the time when we are all grumpy from the change back to daylight savings time that occurred last weekend. So it is a perfect storm…folks are tired from losing an hour of sleep, snakes are becoming active and with warm weather arriving there is yard clean up to be done. Watch out when you are cleaning leaves and debris from your garden or flower beds as snakes like to cozy up in those dead leaves. You can ask my brother, Bruce, who is also our webmaster, about his first-hand experience with a copperhead. Also note to self: it is not a good idea to use the rake to stir up the leaves before you put your hand in them. Now just where is that St. Patrick when you need him?
