Did you ever go to summer camp? Having attended camp myself, a very long time ago, I have really enjoyed watching my grandchildren get excited about camp and talk with anticipation about all of the things they plan to take with them to camp. The week before, the packing of the trunks starts, organizing all of the items on the list, and making last-minute trips to the store to pick up things that were forgotten. This process involves placing items in the trunk and then taking them back out to reorganize everything at least 2 or three times. Finally, the day arrives when the kiddos are dropped off at camp. Their parents may feel a little wistful as they turn to leave but the kids can’t wait to start having “camp fun.” The time passes all too quickly and camp comes to an end with camper awards, skits, and rodeos. Tired kids load into cars shouting goodbyes to the friends they have made, and “See you next year!” rings out as the cars drive away. Whether it is scout camp, church camp, sports camp, horse camp, art camp, or any other kind of camp the sentiment is the same…freedom to be a kid is the best, no matter where you come from.
