Trick or Treat

Trick or Treaters at the door getting candy from a witch

I remember the excitement I felt as a child as Halloween drew closer. In the Texas panhandle there was never much thought behind costumes for the night of fun because most years no one ever saw your costume due to the weather. Halloween night was often cold and blowy, and the costume was safely hidden under a heavy coat and people only saw your face with some kind of ghoulish makeup, or saw your eyes peeking out from behind a plastic mask of some character from a cartoon or TV show. These days when I walk around with my grandchildren it is definitely all about the costumes. Who would have thought there could be inflatable costumes with individual inflator blowers. I love seeing the creativity. What has not changed are the treats…kids go home with bulging bags of candy and other treats, enough to keep all of the town dentists in business for the year. Trick or Treat…and Happy Halloween!
