Summertime weddings

Summertime weddings, June is the month often associated with these special events. In earlier times, June was a time between planting and harvest, when the weather was warm but not too hot and the spring rains had let up so it was a good time for weddings, especially outdoor weddings. Our daughter married on the same date in June as the great grandmother that she was named for. We learned this by accident when our daughter took her great grandmother’s wedding band to be sized for her to use. The local jeweler discovered a date engraved on the inside of...

Father's Day

Father's Day

Father’s Day is almost here. How do you plan to celebrate dear old dad this year? Some of us are fortunate to have a father or father figure in our lives that has made a difference in the persons we are today. He walked the floor with us when we had earaches as toddlers, he taught us how to get a fish hook out of a finger, how...

Flag Day

Today, June 14, is Flag Day. Here at Fredericksburg Farms our American flag flies every day but especially today we salute our flag and its history. On June 14, 1777 John Adams, a delegate, spoke about the flag at a meeting of the Continental Congress in Philadelphia. There have been twenty-seven official versions of the flag so far; stars have been added to it as states...

Catch a whiff of something new!

June is here, and at Fredericksburg Farms we are all scrambling to get our newly designed candle collection manufactured using new sassy and sleek modern style candle glass. Supply chain issues and inconsistent glass quality caused us to search for and find a new American made supplier for our candle glass. While we were changing the glass, we took the opportunity to tweak our soy wax formulation with the addition of coconut oil, and we got great results. The combination of the cylindrical shape of the new glass jars and the improved wax formulation makes for candles that burn cleaner...

School’s out, school’s out!

School’s out, school’s out!

“School’s out, school’s out!” I can still hear the shouts of my friends and me as we ran out of Olsen Park Elementary on the last day of school. Summer vacation lay stretched out before us and it beckoned with endless possibilities. Long lazy days of playing outside with friends from morning until we were called in for lunch and supper, and sometimes going back out and playing after supper until dark. Riding bikes, running through a sprinkler, eating lunch in our treehouse all the while thinking we were hidden from the world. Each day full of fun that sent...
