January Letdown?
Fredericksburg Farms

January can sometimes be a letdown after all of the hustle and bustle of December. We have taken all of the ornaments off the Christmas tree at Fredericksburg Farms and have packed away all of our stockings, and holiday decorations ready to come out next December 1. The last of the holiday goodies and treats are going away in the lunchroom which is a good thing for my waistline. Looking out the window in my office I see brown grass and frozen plants in the garden and flower planters. Time to trim back the dead growth and work the soil...
Don’t throw it out!
Fredericksburg Farms

Remember those bananas you planned to eat with your healthy oatmeal? Or the bananas you bought for the grandkids only to find out that they no longer eat them, in fact they now “hate them.” Well, don’t despair! The peels may have turned black but the banana inside will be super sweet…perfect for banana bread, muffins, or pancakes. How often I find that things I may think are no longer good or of any use can be transformed into something totally new. It just takes being open to new ideas and thinking creatively. Can you speed that up, please?
Fredericksburg Farms

Things are in a blur at Fredericksburg Farms…gift baskets are being made and packed for shipping, web orders are being printed and sent to the warehouse for picking and packing, and everything else is being done as fast as possible to make sure we get our customers’ orders out for delivery by Christmas. It is a real team effort by a dedicated group of employees that is like a big family. We are all working to reach the last ship date and then we start inventory, which is our last year-end task. As we speed through this week that will...
Christmas Tree Treasures
Fredericksburg Farms

This past Sunday afternoon, our family put up the Christmas tree. It is an older 9 ft tree that is assembled in 3 parts. The bottom section of this tree has had the lights replaced and they actually work. The other 2 sections have lights that do not work so we just add 2 strings of lights and the tree looks fine. I am often asked why I don’t just buy a new tree and I answer that this one is a beautifully shaped full tree with plenty of strong branches to hold our vast collection of ornaments. And I...
December 7 Past and Present
Fredericksburg Farms

December 7, only 18 days until Christmas and the countdown is on…can you get it all done? In 1941, on December 7 Americans were going about their Christmas preparations just like every year before, when they were suddenly jolted into the reality of World War II with the bombing of Pearl Harbor on that long ago Sunday morning. The song White Christmas first aired a few weeks later on December 25, crooned by Bing Crosby, host of the radio show Kraft Music Hall. It became wildly popular and remains so today. As I feel the pressures to get everything decorated,...
